Gathering blue by Louis Lowry is the book i have chosen to do for my independent book study. Its i s around 215 pages long. I have read this book once or twice or three times before but i love this book and find new things in it every time i read it, like watching a movie again after you did almost a year ago. Its just as fun and intriguing. Books always seem to hide a little surprise or detail that you didn't pick up every time you read them.
Gathering Blue happens to be a book about a young girl named Kira who was crippled at birth. She was born with a twisted legs. Only problem is that if you cant do everything for yourself and you have no family like her you get taken to the field. and in the field the dead and crippled alike are thrown for creatures that wont let you back alive.Well at least that's what they say. The reality is that the diggers that take them out bury the dead and leave the wounded. The wounded are then picked up and brought to a new home with others like them.
Kira faces all kinds of challenges with her little sidekick Matt for the most part throughout the whole book. Most of the challenge is proving that she is strong and can care for herself and she searches for a special blue dye to repair a ceremonial robe. She meets many others on her way including a long lost family member.
