Another word that comes to mind is determination. She had to have been determined to find the truth to find it. She works her butt off to make it to where she needs to be. To see her father again she had to be determined against all odds. She had to push through her lame legs and the people telling her not to go looking.
She was born a cripple as i said to begin with and you have to be pretty determined to live as a cripple even though people say you should be dead. She is determined to find out where her father went to and found the truth. He was determined to find medacine for his wife and in that process made them think he abandoned them. Kira is determined to find out why and does just that.

Courage is one thing that pops into my head as i read this book. It may not be a litterary term but it is one word that comes to mind. Imagine how much courage it must take to cary on with life even though there are people saying you should not. Imagine the courage needed to stand up to all fears and to take the steps she does in this book.
She has to go and get that blue dye mentioned in the book but on the way to get it she has to go through a large path in the woods most people are too afraid to walk through. After that she is told by the old woman she must go thriough the field to the other side. She does that with herself and 3 other friends but the courage needed is outrageouse. She has to go against all shes been raised into. She must understand that there is more to the world than what is right infront of her.

Gathering Blue blog 2
In the book Kira has her main friend Matt.. In every movie or book the protagonist has a sidekick type friend or someone who just tags along. Matt is this to Kira. They start off in the very beggiing friends. He is a good kid but more or less a ruffian and hes only just a little tyke. Tyke means small child for those who do not know, also Kira is more or less in her teens.
They are great friends and endure everything together. In every times the protagonist has a sidekick the sidekick endures most but not all troubles with the protagonist, this is true here also. Matt does not get into everything but he does come in most of the time. I mean what are friends for?.

In the first section of this book they describe Kira s flaws and how her family is gone and so she must care for herself. her society views her differently and cruedly. They view her as someone who cannot care for herself even though she does everyday. The people who are crippled and cannot care for themselves get sent to the field where they are taken and not returned. Her mother stopped them before but now shes on her own. The society is very high pressure to stay fit and be able to care for yourself, especially women.
This society reminds me of other societies as well, ours is actually kind of like this. We see the people who are unable to care for them selves and kinda just throw them away. We put them in nursing homes and other homes, or leave them in hospitals. We don't pay attention to them and just honestly shun them and deem them not worthy to live among us. This book is a great comparison of this by a long shot. In the end Kira finds the home of all the crippled people and realize they have worked among themselves to live. The people we just toss out do the same thing by working together to maintain happiness and life.

Gathering Blue By Louis Lowry Synopsis
Gathering blue by Louis Lowry is the book i have chosen to do for my independent book study. Its i s around 215 pages long. I have read this book once or twice or three times before but i love this book and find new things in it every time i read it, like watching a movie again after you did almost a year ago. Its just as fun and intriguing. Books always seem to hide a little surprise or detail that you didn't pick up every time you read them.
Gathering Blue happens to be a book about a young girl named Kira who was crippled at birth. She was born with a twisted legs. Only problem is that if you cant do everything for yourself and you have no family like her you get taken to the field. and in the field the dead and crippled alike are thrown for creatures that wont let you back alive.Well at least that's what they say. The reality is that the diggers that take them out bury the dead and leave the wounded. The wounded are then picked up and brought to a new home with others like them.
Kira faces all kinds of challenges with her little sidekick Matt for the most part throughout the whole book. Most of the challenge is proving that she is strong and can care for herself and she searches for a special blue dye to repair a ceremonial robe. She meets many others on her way including a long lost family member.

Prime Numbers
"Prime numbers are what is left when you have taken all the patterns away. I think prime numbers are like life. they are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them." - Christopher in "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime".
When you have prime numbers they have nothing that can be a root to them. They have no pattern. They are odd and even but there is no way to make them smaller. Every other number has a pattern that fits them best. Prime numbers are unique.
They are logical in the way that they can be added into, subtracted into and sometimes multiplied and divided into. The are numbers all the same. Logic goes with numbers. The prime numbers are no different, as in the aren't magically turned to letters making them illogical. Fact is fact and Prime numbers are all fact.

Henry david Thoreau
In order to live well, we must reduce the number of material goods we have. Otherwise, these things begin to dominate us. - Henry david Thoreau.
He makes a valid statement and i agree with him. He was a very smart man and knew exactly what he was talking about. Material goods can consume ones life completely. I mean think of all the people wrapped up in technology. They buy one thing and get absorbed into it then when the newer better one comes out they want that. Then it gets worse and worse to where that's all they think about and talk about.
Even children of a small age get that way. If a child is too spoiled they want more and more and their parents give in for some reason and help consume their child in material goods. Thats their life at that moment, but when they get out into the world alone they dont know what to do. Also a litteral one is a drug addict. They do so many drugs that they lose reality and the world they once knew. In all the examples the people are unhappy no matter what happens. If they were to never get this way to begin with or get rid of some of the things they have they would be happy. They would have no connection to something they could lose or want more of.
